Announcing the Prime Minister's

Joint Educator of the Year

Tēnā koutou katoa,

I'd like to thank the Hon Penny Simmonds, Minister of Tertiary Education and Skills, for hosting us for a marvellous afternoon at Parliament with the awardees, their whānau, colleagues and nominators, and other Tertiary guests to present the Te Whatu Kairangi | Aotearoa Tertiary educator awards.

An exciting change for the top award this year was revealed at the ceremony. The Prime Minister's 'Educator of the Year' Award was presented jointly to two very deserving winners. Read more about them below.

The 2024 Te Whatu Kairangi Awardees with Dr Ēnoka Murphy and Hon Penny Simmonds, at Parliament.

Watch the Awardees' short profile videos, or read the teaching profiles

I invite you to watch the video profile clips, and read the 2024 Awardees' teaching and learning profiles. They are sure to inspire!

You will hear the awardees explain what motivates them as a tertiary educator and hear directly from their learners on the effect their teaching practice has had.

Their methods and strategies may differ, but they all share a common goal of making sure that the success of their learners is at the heart of what they do.

Our congratulations again to all the Awardees. It has been an honour to get to know you and help celebrate your great accomplishments as tertiary educators.
