Another reminder that our Pacific Professional Development Scholarship closes on 20 September. This scholarship, worth up to $5,000 is open to all Pacific staff who are working to support learners in tertiary education.

Te Mana Ākonga festival
Deputy Director Māori, Dr Joe Te Rito, attended the Toitū Te Reo festival in Hastings, along with the Te Mana Ākonga festival in Auckland over the last month.
Dr Joe Te Rito has treasured the opportunity to attend these events. "It was a wonderful opportunity to recharge my reo batteries and to reconnect with reo Māori champions"

Our Pacific Advisors Pale Sauni and Saylene Ulberg, were honoured to attend the 2024 Koroneihana to celebrate the 18th anniversary of the late Māori kingi Tuheitia, at Tūrangawaewae Marae.
Saylene has since reflected on this event saying, that it was a special experience to not only celebrate the Māori king but also the unison between Māori and Pacific people.
Our Northern Sector Services Manager, Ruth Petterson, was thrilled to attend the 2024 Flexible Learning Association New Zealand (FLANZ) conference in Auckland.
She thoroughly enjoyed a presentation on 'Radical Flexibility' by our 2020 Prime Minister's Supreme Award Winner, Dr Rhys Jones and was excited to connect with John Egan from the FLANZ conference team.

Our DFQM team were pleased to add Electrical Training Company (ETCO) to the DFQM registry, increasing the number of organisations to achieve the DFQM to 15.

Beyond Tuākana-Tēina | A model of trade training
The Beyond Tuākana-Tēina project, led by Joshua Kalan, examines the impact of the tuākana-tēina approach on Māori success in trades. In partnership with Tāwharau Housing Trust, this project reveals how Māori methodologies can enhance vocational training for Māori learners.
We are thrilled to be launching this report at the ITENZ conference during the week.
This course will explore what dyscalculia is, what the research has discovered, and how to work successfully with adults with dyscalculia. Facilitated by Dr Damon Whitten, this course includes two online workshops, and an optional, four-week, facilitated support module. Two x 1-hour sessions (27 Sep & 11 Oct)
Explore effective strategies for working with learners with dyspraxia/Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD). This workshop is offered by Ako Aotearoa in partnership with the Dyspraxia Support Group of NZ. One x 1-hour session (12:15 pm - 1:15 pm).
This online course is designed to support Māori cultural awareness and practice of the Māori learning/ teaching methodology of Ako (learn-teach). Engage in six modules of work in your own time with an assessment task at the end of the course.
