A Visit to Sunny Nelson (Whakatū)

Southern Hub Manager Jennifer Leahy, and Professional Learning and Development Consultant Annette van Lamoen enjoyed catching up with the senior leadership team at NMIT - Nelson Marlborough Institue of Technology.

 

They were thrilled to learn how NMIT has been actively promoting our PLD opportunities to their staff and enjoyed discussing our AARIA research funding and the upcoming Te Whatu Kairangi awards ceremony with the team.

Our Manako Principal advisor and Neurodiversity subject-matter expert Vicky Beckwith, was thrilled to facilitate an in-house session that introduced staff at Whitecliff College to Neurodiversity and Nuerodivergence.

 

"They’re an awesome group of educators" - Our Manako Principal Advisor told us after she facilitated the in-house session last month. "They set me some challenging questions to answer and I’m looking forward to continuing this rewarding conversation later in the year."

Ako Mai Me | Dyslexic Learner Journey and Experience 

Ako mai me project image
The Ako Mai Me project, co-lead by Dr Linda Rowan and Dr Lesley Peterson,
gives educators the unique chance to hear directly from dyslexic learners and provide their own with resources that can support their learning.
 
Co-created with dyslexic learners, these guidelines ensure educators are better informed and that dyslexic learners gain access to the stories and experiences of others like them.

Pacific PD Scholarships

Here's a reminder that applications for the 2024 Pacific Professional Development (PD) Scholarship have opened.

 

This scholarship, worth up to $5,000 is open to all Pacific staff who are working to support learners in tertiary education.

New ESOL Resources  

We are delighted to announce the release of three new ESOL resources by Celia Hope and Jenny Field, added to our digital read-along story series:

  • Spring gardening 
  • Sally's nose operation at Waikato Hospital 
  • Getting a Warrant of Fitness 

These resources are designed for adult beginner-level, English language learners and are freely downloadable on our website.

New Workshops - Exploring Ako | Six Steps to Success

Dates: 29 August - 21 November 2024
Cost: Overview $100, focussed sessions $50 each OR $350 for the complete package!

Join us for Exploring Ako | Six Steps to Success introductory overview. Where you will investigate the six principles of enhancing learner outcomes in tertiary education.

Engaging Learners Online | Teaching Through Technology

Learner Agency

Starts 3 September

This series of three workshops facilitated by Dr Damon Whitten will provide you with essential skills, strategies, and knowledge to foster learner agency in your learners. A special rate is available for those who register for all three workshops. Three x 1- hour sessions (3 Sep - 17 Sep).
